Pride is a celebration, its roots are rebellion.
We continue to remind ourselves that Our Roots Run Deep to stay grounded. Trans people have a continuous legacy of living authentically as ourselves and fighting for liberation. For centuries, colonial structures and people in power have scapegoated our community to uphold white supremacy and continue to harm marginalized communities. We know they see us as a threat. We know they are scared to lose their power, which is why they’re trying to take ours away.
But we won’t be stopped. We will continue to build power together. Many of us are feeling righteous and valid rage about injustice and oppression. Anger is a catalyst – let it be the spark for change. This Pride, we were inspired by the origins of Pride as an uprising and Audre Lorde’s The Uses of Anger: Women Responding to Racism, which emphasizes anger as a tool for clarity and change.
The time is now to honor this rage by demanding and acting for justice for our community.
